Pick up at Front Desk

The Great North American Eclipse is coming our way on April 8th, 2024. Thanks to a generous grant from the Space Science Institute, we have a supply of eclipse glasses to share with our community.  We are also working in collaboration with the Hampstead School District and the school will be providing eclipse glasses for all students.  Those who are not students in the Hampstead School District may sign up for glasses here at the library.  Library cards will be required to register and we ask that you please register for those members of your household who will not be receiving glasses from the school.  The glasses will be available for pick-up beginning on Wednesday, April 3rd at 1:00 PM.

Eclipse information for Hampstead:

In Hampstead, the sun will be just under 95% blocked at the peak of the eclipse.  It is not safe to look at the sun at any point during the eclipse without proper eye protection such as eclipse glasses or an industrial welding mask.  Regular sunglasses are not strong enough to protect your eyes.  There will be a viewing party at the library with a limited number of glasses available for on-site use.

Eclipse timing in Hampstead:

Start time:  2:16 PM

Peak:  3:29 PM

End time:  4:39 PM

For more information, visit Time and Date .

The eclipse will be total in the North Country.  The next total solar eclipse to come to New Hampshire will be on May 1, 2079, so you don't want to miss this one!

If you want to purchase additional eclipse glasses, the American Astronomical Society maintains a list of safe suppliers that you may order from.

Registration for this event has now closed.
